We started right here on the Newfoundland coast with one kid, one mini stick, and a big idea to bring mega HEART back into the game. Too many kids were feeling the pressure to be perfect, and we wanted to get back to what matters most: joy, imagination, and fun.
At Sharkies, every product we create celebrates that feeling.

From our Mini Stix built for endless hallway games, to our cozy Sharkwear that keeps you warm between plays, everything we make is inspired by the ocean we live beside and the ice we play on.

Hi, I’m Hunter. I love playing hockey, especially mini sticks.
One day after Christmas, my mom and dad and I were talking about how hockey can get a bit too serious. Sometimes kids forget it’s supposed to be fun. So we decided to start Sharkies Hockey to bring the fun back.
We make cool stuff for kids who love the game and want to play with heart. Hockey should be about having fun with your friends, trying new moves, and feeling proud of yourself, no matter what team you’re on.
That’s what Sharkies is all about.

Something new is making waves in Newfoundland hockey, and it started right in our living room.
Sharkies Hockey was born to bring heart back to the game. To remind kids (and parents) that hockey is supposed to be fun, creative, and full of laughter.

At Sharkies, we celebrate the kids who play for the love of it.  The ones who cheer for their friends, try new moves, and laugh when they fall.
Everything we make, from our Heart of the Game medals to our Mini Stix and Sharkies Sharkwear™ is designed to remind kids why they started playing in the first place.
Hockey was born on frozen ponds and coastal rinks.
We are bringing it back to where it began.  To the joy, the play, and the heart of the game.

 

Our Story

It all started the way most great ideas do, at home, in the middle of everyday life.
On Boxing Day 2024, the rink was closed, the snow was falling, and our son Hunter was playing mini sticks in the living room. He had just opened a new mystery stick that morning, and within minutes the house was filled with laughter, shots, and shouts of “Did you see that one?”
Somewhere between the giggles and the chaos, we started talking about hockey. Not the professional side, not the pressure to be perfect, but the heart of it. The part that gets lost when kids start worrying about making the right team or impressing the right coach.
As parents, we saw how much joy hockey brought Hunter, but also how easily that joy can disappear under pressure. Duane, who coaches Hunter’s team, sees it every day. He knows that kids play their best when they are having fun, when they feel supported, and when they know it is okay to just be themselves.
So we made a decision that night to bring the fun back.
From our home by the sea in Newfoundland, Sharkies Hockey was born.
It started as a small family idea and quickly grew into a bigger mission to remind every kid and every parent that hockey was never meant to be about perfection. It was meant to be about play, creativity, and heart.
We wanted to create something that would make kids feel excited again, whether they are in the rink, in their basement, or out on a frozen pond.
That is why we started designing Mini Stix, creating Heart of the Game medals, and dreaming up Sharkwear that celebrates what makes hockey truly Canadian — the laughter, the friends, the frozen hands, and the memories that last a lifetime.
This is not just a brand. It is a family project built from love, community, and a belief that hockey should feel like home.
