Sharkies Hockey started the way most meaningful things do at home, in the middle of everyday life.
One kid. One mini stick. A living room full of chaos.
And a realization that somewhere along the way, hockey had started to feel heavier than it needed to be.
Too much pressure.
Too much perfection.
Not enough play.
So we decided to build something different.
From our home by the sea in Newfoundland, Sharkies Hockey was created to bring the heart back to the game for kids and for the families who love watching them play.
Because hockey was never meant to be about perfection.
It was meant to be about joy, imagination, friendship, and the courage to try again.

Why Sharkies Exists
As parents, we watched how much joy and empowerment hockey brought our son Hunter and how quickly that joy could disappear when the pressure to perform took over.
Duane coaches youth hockey and sees it every week. Kids play their best when they feel safe, supported, and free to be themselves.
Sharkies was born from a simple belief:
Kids don’t need more pressure. They need more encouragement.
Everything we create from Mini Stix to Sharkwear to our Heart of the Game medals exists to celebrate effort, creativity, teamwork, and heart.
The things that actually make kids fall in love with the game.

Bringing Heart Back to Hockey Together
One of the most meaningful parts of Sharkies Hockey has been watching how quickly the community has embraced heart-first hockey.
In our very first season:
• 50 Heart of the Game medals were created, and every one of them was donated to youth tournaments
• Our first run of Sharkies hats sold out completely
• Over 100 Sharkies hat patches made their way into rinks across Newfoundland
• Our first Sharkwear drop, including tees, sweatshirts, and joggers, launched successfully with families who believe hockey should feel fun again
Every piece of gear sold helps fund the next round of medals.
This allows tournaments to recognize players for kindness, effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship, not just stats.
Because hockey should celebrate who kids are becoming, not just how they perform.
Looking Ahead
Our goal for next season is simple:
double the impact.
We plan to double our medal order so more tournaments and teams can recognize the players who bring heart to the game.
More medals.
More encouragement.
More kids feel seen and valued on and off the ice.

Slapshot Sally and BarDown Betty were created to celebrate girls in hockey’s best friends, bringing confidence, creativity, and girl power to the ice.
Because hockey belongs to everyone.
And every young player deserves to see themselves reflected in the game.
