Welcome sister, here’s the secret sauce I discovered while working through my own personal Mindset overhaul and Transformation. After finally losing 50 lbs this was the main strategy I implemented to move the needle forward.
We’ve all heard about the 80/20 rule right? But I believe there is far too much emphasis on the food with zero focus on the mind/ emotional state. Especially as it pertains to weight loss and transformation. No matter how much you change your body’s shape and size if you don’t work on the mind you’ll never feel completely fulfilled. I know this because I’ve lived it.
So what if we took a new approach to our transformations. One where we re-examined our transformation journey holistically instead of individual parts. Bringing together all four of our energetic bodies (The Physical, The Spiritual, The Emotional + The Mental) what if we broke it down even further and put less of the focus on our foods + exercise put more attention on our the mental + emotional wellness. Most people don’t fall of track because they don’t know what foods to eat or exercises to perform. They fall off track because the mind jumps in to offer up all kinds of excuses why it “won’t work this time”
Don’t get me wrong the food component is critical but it is the types of foods we are eating and truly nourishing our bodies that makes all the difference. What works can be different for everyone and all I can offer you is what has worked for me on my journey.
Think of it like this way – You catch yourself scrolling on social media for too long, when your done you feel sick, plus the wheels in your mind begin to churn picking apart your entire life. You sink deeper into a heavy state as you analyze why your life doesn’t look like someone else’s and maybe you should be doing more than you already are. This is what I call Empty Calorie Living and it happens to all of us, everyday day. It’s not just social media that’s the culprit but also the people whom your surrounded by, your family, your environment and how/ where you are spending your precious resources and ENERGY.
I look at Food in the same way. We have been sold that eating certain foods are actually good for us, when in reality the marketing machine is selling us empty calorie foods that are killing us! For example this idea that low fat, no carbs, sugar “free” processed garbage is actually going to nourish us is crazy. Never mind that you’ve been sold it might help you lose weight BS. The amount of sugars that are contained in the foods we are consuming is leaving us feeling malnourished + hangry waiting for the next fix. Most of us don’t even know when we are truly full + satisfied. Especially when it comes to eating, because eating has become like speed dating how fast can you get this fix so you can move onto the next one hoping it will be the right one that makes you feel fulfilled.
Gross right. But you know there’s some truth to what I’m saying and don’t you worry I’ve got a plan, so keep reading cause its about to get really GREAT!
Here’s the new way and it is the way that has helped me completely transform my life.
I spend 60% of my minds power focused on my FOODS. I choose nutrient dense foods. No more of this low fat crap. I eat fats and carbs – just the right ones. No more starving and feeling like I need to binge eat because I’m never full or satisfied. This is the old trap and lord knows it doesn’t make for long term success.
Next I spend 20% on MOVEMENT. I move my body for at least 20-30 minutes per day ideally (but as a mom sometimes that just isn’t possible). Things come up I get that and I also do NOT beat myself up when it doesn’t happen. I make sure to get a sweat on for a portion of my movement because it helps move the lymph and the toxins out, which also encourages the flow of energy and gets the “Issues out of my Tissues”. I wholeheartedly believe that however you get your movement in is a total win whether you’re – chasing your kids, working out at the gym, making love, indoor activities, outdoor activities, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is that you do it and that you commit to do it as often as humanly possible.
The last 20% is EMOTIONS + MINDSET. This should straight up be the first one on the list because this is the one people have the biggest issue overcoming. Every second of everyday can be a struggle, your mind is a very powerful tool. But it’s just that a tool, meant for you to be in control of. Once you are committed to change and completely committed to yourself – you will always find your way back.
Diving into the deep stuff that comes up as you are shedding your layers will change your life. Accepting that setbacks and plateauing is just a part of the process. Acknowledging that falling off the wagon isn’t the end of your program – eating pizza, drinking a bottle of wine and devouring an entire cake isn’t ideal but sister shit happens. What matters most is how quickly you recover, because that will make or break your overall progress. Remember we are aiming for progress not perfection – and as a recovering perfectionist I know this can be the hardest part. Not throwing in the towel when you’ve had a bad week because well you’ve already ruined 3 months of hard work right? WRONG. Get it right this time. Acknowledge the hiccup as just that a hiccup and keep moving forward. Strive to find the tools that work for YOU while you are processing through these murky moments and emotions. I promise you that if you can push through 3x just 3 setbacks you’ll begin to break your old habits. You won’t quit when it gets tough and you’ll know what to do and how to approach what’s coming up. Here are some of my favourite tools when I’m struggling to up level myself – I meditate, I create beautiful essential oil blends that support whats coming up, I take long detoxing baths, I spend time journaling and feeling all the emotions that are arising, I get out in nature to feel connection and grounding and I remind myself I’m worth taking this time to nurture myself so that I can then nurture others from a full place.
PSA – I’m a mama to a tiny human so my reality is that I can’t do all the things all the time but I can do some of the things some of the times – so I do what will make the most impact and get me back on track as fast as possible.
I sincerely hope this helps in someway and gives you the inspiration to keep moving forward. xo
